Sam Berlin literary fiction LUNA novel

LUNA

LUNA is a work of literary fiction, based on the life of Charlie Hyde, a social media billionaire who sets out to circumnavigate the moon. At its heart, Luna is the study of a man coming to terms with a violent childhood and the influence it continues to exert throughout his life.

Luna examines fundamental questions about our modern world by probing at the crumbling edifice of modern capitalism, the vice inherent in extreme wealth and hubris in an age of passive voyeurism. Luna uses a large cast of characters to explore the nature of individuality and how it is subverted by the unforgiving eye of social media.

It’s a novel that pushes boundaries, whilst remaining rooted in reality. It draws on Norman Mailer’s A Fire on the Moon as well as the scope of novels such as Earthly Powers by Anthony Burgess and the sense of place evoked by Yuri Herrera’s Signs Preceding the End of the World.
